How do you resolve hate?

I seriously hate some people just because they are such douche bags.  And maybe its more anger.  I don't know.  But I seriously dislike people based on their selfish attitudes.  And yes I am referring to peoples politics.

I work with a lady that took advantage of the home mortgage bail out.  She bragged about it at work and added the comment "well at least that's one good thing Obama did".  When I pressed her on her comment, she related that she could not stand Obama, but the home mortgage bail out was good in her opinion (because she needed a bail out).  All other stimulus was bad.  The auto bail out was bad.  More people on food stamps is bad.  Running big deficits is bad (even though her bail out contributed to more deficit spending).  Unions are bad.  And on and on and on.

Another case in point.  I have a brother here in Wisconsin who is a big Republican.  But, he was all up in arms about what Walker did here in the state, because it effected him.  He is a city worker and he has to contribute more to his pension and health care as a result of what happened here.  The city he works for is following Walkers lead with what is being done to the state.  Big Republican all his life; voted that way for 30 plus years.  However, he voted for Tom Barrett in the recall, which shocked me.   I would think he would have learned something from this personal experience, but he hasn't.  I recently found out he was laughing about Biden's debate performance, thinking he lost to Ryan because of his laughs and smirks.  I found out through another sibling that he is a big Ryan fan and is now voting for Mitt Romney.  I haven't seen him  in the last two months, but at that time the Walker changes were fresh on his mind and he was "unsure" about how he would vote in the Presidential election.  Well, he's resolved that apparently.

Third case: I know a physician (yes, a physician) that said health care is NOT a right, it is a privilege.  Yes, I Doctor that believes health care is for the privileged.  She is a specialist, not a general practitioner which I think makes a difference in these attitudes.  She has hers.  She has a big income, and her children have great health insurance and great health care.  Unbelievable.

And that is the common thread with all of these people.  The "I've got mine.  Fuck you" attitude.  "The door was open for me, but I'm closing it behind me because I don't what that open door to cost me a dime, even though I took mine when I passed through that door".

I am so sick of the selfishness of these people.  They are family members.  They are coworkers.  They are neighbors.  I'd like to think that I could just close the door behind me on them, but I can't do that.  I don't know how to reach these people.  And I have tried, but my efforts haven't changed them.

It's really sad.  I "hate" to hate.  And that is why I guess I just needed to vent here.  It makes me feel as though half of the people in this country are selfish pricks, and that REALLY bothers me.  And to be fair some are just uninformed, and I can cut them some slack, and maybe even reach out and convince some of them.

But these people that I described above are just not nice human beings, and they are everywhere.  How do you deal with that?  How do you maintain relationships with these people, when you work with them or they are in your family?

It sucks.  Thanks for listening.
